During the pregame ceremonies the lights are dimmed, and the team skates out of the mouth of a ferocious looking shark’s head that is lowered from the ceiling. Even though the 49ers play in nearby Santa Clara, the locals regard the Sharks as their “home team.” The arena tends to be at about 90% capacity regardless of who they are playing.
